Saving my clothes “for best” is something that I have conditioned myself to do since I was a young’en. For what, I hear you ask? For well… I don’t know what for exactly.
When I was younger, possibly to stop my mum’s heart rate from creeping up as I ran about scuffing my knees playing rounders in that ditsy Laura Ashley dress? I get it. In that circumstance, save the pretty dress for best, seven-year-old Lauren.
Nowadays? There’s no one to answer to but myself, so maybeee to place some extra faux-worth to those occasional sartorial treats that I convince myself that I need in my life from time to time. Probably. If you’re saving those pieces for best, then they were worth the price tag, right?
It’s ridiculous though. Life’s short. And the older I get, the faster it whizzes on by (and the more I prefer the comfort of my own house) and so these “worthy” moments appear few and far between. And, if I’m being 100% honest with myself, I’ll mark those occasions by buying something newer anyway.
Moral of the story: just wear the pink satin trousers, babes.
Wear them to the hen-do with the delightfully clashing red cold-shoulder body-suit and the gold strappy heels. It’ll make you feel fancy and feminine, whilst saving you the embarrassment of having to get those pale-ass pins out.
Wear them at the weekend with a comfortable, over-sized cotton shirt that you’ve recklessly cut so you can tie at the waist. While you’re at it, tie your hair back like a Disney damsel-in-distress (pre-makeover), after all, you still gotta be able to keep up with those weekend chores.
Wear them with the workwear jacket that you’ve borrowed from the boys, becaus
e while you feel most comfortable wearing menswear whilst you’re working on menswear, it’s all just fashion darlings and pink satin can still reign supreme.
Where it with whatever the heck you want, whenever you want, because this is your style manifesto, your 2018 middle-finger to “saving-things-for-best”… and anyway, it’s resourceful to recycle your outfits. They say it helps to save the planet.
